About the Event
Alport Castles is over half a mile long, it is thought to be the largest landslide in the UK, the name "castles" comes from the debris left from the landslide, which has produced several gritstone mounds that form a tower over the valley and appear in the distance like a tower or castle. The actual tower has changed shape since our first visit (about 7 years ago), with a further rockfall from the tower itself. We love the remoteness of Alport and catching glimpses of the peregrine falcons that nest here, we've also on one occasion spotted the elusive Mountain Hare on the actual summit (which jumped out in front of our path and scared the life out of us)
Well worth a look and explore, and if you're brave enough a climb to the summit.
